AAG VIC event: Pharmacists in aged care

AAG's Victoria Division's Industry Partnerships Sub-Committee is pleased to be hosting a face-to-face forum on 'Unpacking the role of pharmacists in aged care'.

In health and aged care, appropriate, safe and effective medication administration depends on a partnership approach. Effective implementation of the major changes to the role of pharmacists in aged care depends on information and consultation.

From 5.30 to 7.30 pm on Tuesday 25 July, join us in discussing the opportunities and challenges of the pharmacist role in residential and community care. The event will be held at the offices of Optometry Victoria South Australia, in Carlton (with special thanks to AAG Vic Division Chair Ilsa Hampton).

Information and registration details are on our website.

NAIDOC Week 2023

In the first week of July each year, national NAIDOC Week events are held across the country to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year, the NAIDOC Week theme is 'For our Elders'.

In Thursday Three a few weeks ago (1 June), we featured the inaugural 'Ageing at the Centre' forum, facilitated through the work of the AAG Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing Advisory Group (ATSIAAG). This two-day forum in Mparntwe Alice Springs brought together Elders, service providers and other stakeholders to share their knowledge, experience and insights to improve the experience of ageing in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. It was certainly 'For our Elders'.

To coincide with NAIDOC Week, we are pleased to share a new AAG discussion paper. 'Recognising cultural and local knowledges in aged care' presents the results of project in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous stakeholders came together to discuss the systemic barriers and on-ground solutions to recruiting, retaining and promoting workers who provide important cultural and local knowledges in aged care.

AAG is committed to facilitating regular forums through ATSIAAG, where service managers and workers from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led organisations can connect, share and discuss difficulties and their strategies. AAG will also continue to work with members of ATSIAAG and Friends of ATSIAAG to fulfill our purpose of connecting research, policy and practice in gerontology.
